Aswan is a city in the south of Egypt. It’s located on the Nile River, about 751 km south of Cairo. Aswan is also known for its many restaurants, especially those serving Ful, Falafel, and Baba Ghanoush. These 5 restaurants are my favorite places to eat traditional Egyptian street food:
1. Alwinsh Foul And Falafel
If you are in Aswan and really want to eat like a local, then Alwinsh Foul And Falafel is the place for you. They offer cheap and delicious taameya (Egyptian falafel), foul (fava beans), and baba ganeoush. The menu also includes eggs, shawarma, and other traditional Egyptian dishes that are served with rice or french fries.
The food is great here and the service is even better! You can also get some good advice from your waiter about what to do in Aswan or how much money to budget for your trip here if this is your first time traveling through Egypt.
It’s authentic Egyptian food at its best!
2. Al-Mana’eiia restaurant
Al-Mana’eiia restaurant is a good place to eat Ful, falafel, and baba ghanoush. The food is fresh and delicious, with big portions that you can share with your friends. The cleanliness of the place is good and so are the waiters who treat people in charge of their shop well and idealistically.
The most popular dishes at this restaurant are Ful, Falafel, and baba ganeoush. Waiters try to speak English as much as they can but sometimes it’s very crowded with locals only.
3. Aswan Old Souks
The third best place to eat ful, falafel, and baba ghanoush in Aswan City Centre is the Old Souks. This market is fairly clean and well kept with a good mix of touristy shops and local shops like butchers, bakers, spice shops, and restaurants. The prices are more expensive than in other places but still cheap compared to other cities in Egypt.
Beware of pickpocketing! It’s similar to Khan Al Khalili market in Cairo except there are fewer people walking around here making it less crowded overall too which means longer waits at each stall due to higher demand which ultimately makes everything cost more money than usual.
4. El Shabrawy Restaurant
This is the most popular restaurant that serves ful and falafel in Aswan. The food is of good quality, it has chairs and tables to sit on, and next to the Aswan station.
The price is reasonable compared with other restaurants in the Aswan city center area. The staff are friendly and helpful. They provide delivery services as well as take-away meals if you don’t have time for dining in their place of business or cannot get there due to any reason (elderly people).
5. El Iskandrani for street food
El Iskandrani is a popular restaurant in Aswan city center, near the train station. You can find sandwiches, beans, and falafel, and also liver and kofta. The restaurant has a good seating area where you can relax after walking around the city center or take a break from shopping in Aswan Souq. The food here is cheap but very tasty!
